Two people died after being pulled from a house fire in Joppatowne Wednesday morning.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office said W. Cliff Long, 82, and Miriam Edgerley Long, 81, both residents of a home on Gunpowder Drive, died after being pulled from the fire Wednesday.

The fire started at the one-story home at about 8:10 a.m., according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal. Emergency responders pulled both victims from the fire and treated both of them at the scene.

Images posted on social media of the blaze show large flames burning through the home’s garage, and a section of the home.

According to fire officials, the cause of the blaze is under investigation. Since the fire resulted in fatalities, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office will assist in the investigation. A K9 unit and investigators are expected to remain at the scene throughout the day, according to the fire marshal’s release.

The fire marshal’s public information officer Oliver Alkire said due to the ongoing investigation, the ages and identities of the victims are being withheld at this time.
