Harford County police have charged six people in connection with suspected drug activity at Abbey Burger in Havre de Grace.

In September, detectives from the Harford County Drug Task Force initiated an investigation into drug activity related to the Abbey Burger in Havre de Grace, located in the 200 block of N. Washington Street, according to a news release. The investigation was prompted by phone and anonymous tips that drugs were being used and sold from within the business.

Detectives observed “multiple employees of the business engaging in activity consistent with drug sales and/or drug usage while on the clock and one employee sold cocaine to an undercover officer,” the release said.

One five occasions, cocaine was sold to undercover officers inside the business, and three of these sales were made by the employees while they were working in the restaurant, according to the Harford County Drug Task Force.

On Jan. 30, Harford County police executed a search warrant at Abbey Burger during the downtown eatery’s karaoke night around 9 p.m. ordering patrons to “put their hands up” and leave the business while police detained employees involved in the investigation. Six people have been arrested and charged in connection to the suspected activity.

Abbey Burger issued an apology on its Facebook page to the patrons that were present in the restaurant when police arrived at the restaurant last month.

“We have great staff who love and care for our customers and this town,” the post said. “We take pride in maintaining a welcoming, safe and enjoyable environment for all of our guests, and we are reviewing our procedures to ensure that this situation does not repeat itself.”
