A jury found Wesley Lyons Jr., of Edgewood guilty of attempted second-degree murder and several other charges related to a shooting at the Harford Mall that occurred during his 1-year-old child’s birthday party in June.
According to police, mall surveillance footage showed Gregg getting into a fight with another woman at Harford Bounce Party Place. After punches were thrown, others at the party broke up the fight.
The shooting occurred after a fight broke out between Lyons’ mother, Lisa Gregg, 60, of Edgewood, and another woman at the Harford Bounce Party Place in the mall, according to charging documents. During the incident Lyons pulled a handgun with an extended magazine from his waistband and fired it five times, striking and injuring 42-year-old Richard Williams, according to a news release from Harford County State’s Attorney Allison Healy.
“I am particularly appalled by Wesley Lyons and the decision he made to commit this heinous and very violent crime at the birthday party for a 1-year-old child,” Healy said in the release. “This is further exacerbated by the fact that he did so in the presence of multiple other children and adults as well, placing them all in danger.”
Williams was struck in the upper left thigh, in his groin and in a finger. He was airlifted from the scene to an area hospital after Lyons and the two women fled the scene in a maroon SUV, police said.
Gregg and Lyons’ girlfriend were found outside of an Edgewood home hours after the shooting. Both were taken into custody and charged with accessory to first-degree attempted murder, police said.
Lyons was arrested June 30 at a Red Roof Inn in Anne Arundel County and transported to the Harford County Detention Center, according to the release.
Lyons was convicted of:
- Attempted second-degree murder
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence
- Two counts of illegal possession of a regulated firearm after being convicted of a disqualifying crime
- Loaded handgun on person
- Five counts of reckless endangerment
Charges were dropped against Lyons’ girlfriend and accessory charges against Gregg were dropped in June, according to court documents. Gregg remains charged with second-degree assault as well as providing a false statement to an officer. Her trial date is March 19 in Harford County Circuit Court, according to court documents.
