Edgewood Middle School was on a modified lockdown Monday morning after a child was struck by a vehicle near the school. The child suffered minor injuries, according to police.

At about 7:26 a.m., Monday, a 14-year-old was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street in the 2300 block of Willoughby Beach Road near Deerfield Elementary, said Cristie Hopkins, a Harford County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

The child ran into the road and the vehicle could not stop in time, Hopkins said; the child suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Edgewood Middle School, which is located next to Deerfield Elementary on Willoughby Beach Road, was under a modified lockdown Monday morning due to the police activity in the area. Students and staff remained in classrooms, and instruction continued, Principal Monisha Thomas said in a statement.
