The first 7 Brew Drive-Thru Coffee in Maryland has been proposed at the site of a former bank on Emmorton Road in Abingdon. A community input meeting for the proposal is scheduled for Thursday.
7 Brew Coffee first opened in Rogers, Arkansas in 2017. According to the company’s website, the shops specialize in custom, handcrafted drinks. There are 278 locations across the country.
An online menu lists seven unique coffee flavors like Coconut Caramel Mocha, White Chocolate and Irish Cream Breve, as well as teas, smoothies, shakes, energy drinks and 7Fizz — sparkling water infused with any flavor with the option of whipped cream added. 7 Brew Coffee will not serve food.
The location, across Emmorton Road from Box Hill Pizzeria, was formerly home to SunTrust Mortgage. According to Google, the location has not been occupied by SunTrust Mortgage since 2019.
The building is equipped with two drive-thru lanes. According to the project engineer, Bob Capalango, the proposed coffee shop will use both of those lanes.
Capalango said 7 Brew Coffee is the “beverage version of Chick-fil-A” because of the drive-thru efficiency.
He noted that the site has two entrances — one from Emmorton Road and another from Singer Road. Capalango said 7 Brew Coffee plans to use both entrances to try to avoid traffic congestion.
Plans for the building include resurfacing, landscaping and revitalization of the former building. Capalango said, if the county approves, he anticipates opening the shop by spring.
A community input meeting — the first step in the development process — is planned for Thursday at 5 p.m. in Meeting Room A of the Abingdon Library at 2510 South Tollgate Road.
