The three candidates nominated to fill Harford County’s vacated District B seat following the removal of Aaron Penman in February were introduced to the public during a council meeting Tuesday.
Allison Imhoff, Russell English, Jr. and Joseph Xavier delivered introductory speeches offering their views on the issues and challenges faced by the District B community.
Imhoff, 38, is a social worker and a sixth-generation Harford County resident. She said the main reason she applied for the position is because she wants to see her community flourish as a safe space for young families to grow. Imhoff said one of the top issues plaguing the district is the lack of affordable housing. She shared conversations she’d had with her former high school classmates, who said they don’t have the income necessary to continue living in the county.
English, 65, is a former member of the Marine Corps and retired firefighter who has lived in the District B area for over 40 years. Infrastructure is his main concern, he said, because the county’s roads are not built to handle the heavy flow of traffic that some main and residential roads are experiencing. “I am one voice and getting things done by myself would be extremely difficult,” English said. “But it is my resolve to work with all members of the county council to bring resolution to the problems within Harford County.”
Xavier, 52, said protecting the education system is his top priority for the district. He currently serves as a senior of health and safety for the construction industry, and wants to provide children with a safe learning environment.
