A music teacher with Harford County Public Schools was arrested Sunday and charged with 11 counts accusing him of possessing and distributing child pornography.

The 27-year-old teacher, Dominic Lafrancesca, worked at George D. Lisby Elementary School and gained the attention of detectives with the Harford County Child Advocacy Center who received a tip earlier this year regarding Lafrancesca’s suspicious internet activity, according to a news release from Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, Lafrancesca had been downloading “multiple sexually explicit images of children that appeared to be between one and 13 years of age.”

Detectives got a search and seizure warrant which led to Lafrancesca’s arrest at his home without incident on Sunday. He did not have a defense attorney listed in online court records on Tuesday.

Lafrancesca admitted to downloading sexually explicit photos of children, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said. He also admitted to sharing the photos online with other adults, according to the news release.

The 27-year-old started working at Lisby Elementary in 2022, according to a statement from Harford County Public Schools, which said Lafrancesca was immediately placed on administrative leave. The school system said it “will continue to fully support” investigators.

“We hold our staff to the highest standards and expectations,” the school system said in the statement. “The accusation that a staff member has violated these standards is devastating.”

Before working at the elementary school in Aberdeen, Lafrancesca worked as a substitute teacher starting in 2020 at William S. James Elementary, Dublin Elementary, Magnolia Elementary, Bakerfield Elementary, and Fallston High schools, the statement said.

A bail hearing was held for Lafrancesca on Monday where he was ordered to be held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center. Investigators are continuing an investigation into Lafrancesca with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office Digital Forensics Unit. The unit is working to analyze multiple electronic devices seized during the court-ordered search that led to Lafrancesca’s arrest.
