Havre de Grace police seized 327 bags of suspected fentanyl during a traffic stop Tuesday.
Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Pulaski Highway during which they found 327 small bags of white powder suspected to be fentanyl, police said in a news release.
The street value of all of the bags is about $5,000, police said.
A suspect was arrested and charged with felony charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute; two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, not cannabis; and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia.
Fentanyl is the leading cause of drug overdoses, with as little as 2 milligrams — a fraction of the size of a penny — being enough to kill a user, police said.
According to data from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, the number of fatal overdoses in Harford County has declined almost 40% from 2023 to 2024. Between January and November 2023, 303 overdoses were reported, but only 186 were reported during the same time period in 2024 — a decrease of 38.6%, according to the report. This equates to an average of about 17 overdoses per month.
The number of confirmed fatal overdoses has decreased in the county from 55 overdoses in 11 months in 2023, to 15 in that same 11-month span in 2024.
