The building that houses Havre de Grace Middle and High schools was evacuated Wednesday morning after police received an email threatening “bombs in a classroom.”
Cpl. Philip Goertz of the Havre de Grace Police Department said the email was received at 8:15 a.m. Police advised school officials of the threat which prompted a full evacuation of the building.
Hundreds of students stood on the school’s athletic field while police investigated the threat using dogs to search for explosives in the school. The threat was found to not be credible, Goertz said.
Once the building was deemed safe, students and staff returned to the building and resumed classes, according to an email from Principal Brad Spence.
“As always, the safety of our school community is our top priority,” Spence wrote in the message to the school community. “Please use this opportunity to remind your student: if they see or hear something that seems suspicious or concerning, they should report it to a trusted adult.”
Police said an investigation into the threat is ongoing.
