Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Tuesday.
Boys lacrosse
Boys’ Latin 11, Loyola Blakefield 8: The host Lakers (7-3, 3-1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) went on a 2-0 run over the final two minutes of the first half to take an 8-6 lead and held off the Dons (6-4, 1-2). Cooper Pasko finished with a game-high five goals, including a natural hat trick in the first half for Loyola.
Mount St. Joseph 11, Gilman 10: The visiting Gaels (7-2, 2-1) trailed by five goals in the come-from-behind win over the Greyhounds (2-8, 1-2). The win was the third straight.
Landon 13, Severna Park 5: The visiting Falcons (4-1) led early before the Bears (10-1) went on a 7-0 run in the second half to pull away. The victory extended their winning streak to seven games. Severna Park led 4-2 before Landon went on a 4-0 run in the first half.
AACS 22, Cristo Rey 0: The Eagles (5-1, 2-0 MIAA C Conference) blew out Cristo Rey behind goals from 12 different players. AACS led 16-0 at the half.
Archbishop Curley 16, St. John’s Catholic Prep 3: The host Friars (3-3, 1-1 MIAA B Conference) beat the Vikings (2-1, 1-1). The win was the third straight.
Spalding 17, St. Mary’s 9: Joseph Matassa led the scoring with four goals for the Cavaliers (10-1), followed by Brady Mollot (three goals, four assists), Grady Swidersky (three goals, two assists) and Jack Newell (three goals). Brody Moss assisted four goals. Jacob Neuman made 10 saves.
Chesapeake-AA 13, Old Mill 1: Nathan Wheeler netted four goals and an assist, followed by Ryan Kopp and Cade Shannon, who each had two goals. Five Cougars scored a goal: Dominic Thatcher, Chase Fulton (three assists), Jake Forman (two assists), Shawn Parks (one assist) and Mason Bombard. Hunter Cappe made four saves while Michael Baccala had three.
River Hill 10, Oakland Mills 7: The Hawks (3-3) won their third straight game. Xavier Vereen scored four goals for Oakland Mills, while Joe McConaghy had a goal and an assist. Ayden Erbe made 10 saves for the Scorpions.
Girls lacrosse
Glenelg 19, Reservoir 1: The Gladiators (5-2, 3-0 Summit Division) were dominant in the win. Kaitlyn Hill, Regan Kelleher and Ryan Kelleher all each had tricks. For Reservoir (4-2, 2-1 Summit), Bailey Ko scored the lone goal.
Marriotts Ridge 23, Wilde Lake 0: The Mustangs (3-2) erupted for a season-high in goals and won their third straight game. Katie Leader, Hayden Baumgartner, Sarah Fitter, Lillie Parsons and Danyel Berman each had hat tricks in the win. Sedona Kaplan scored and dished out a game-high four assists, while Jenna Cratin scored twice and added three assists. Ten different Mustangs scored in the win.
Centennial 19, Guilford Park 1: The Eagles (6-1) continued to roll, winning their fourth straight game. Caroline Cudzilo led the charge with five goals and two assists, while Kailtyn McManus added a hat trick and an assist. Claire Whipkey scored twice and added two assists, and Bea Petrlik finished with a game-high four assists.
Howard 16, Hammond 2: Ayden Miller had one goal and four assists and Bryn Barlett had two goals and two assists to lead the visiting Lions over the Bears. Other standouts for Howard included: Emmie Williams (2 goals, 1 assist), Courtney Brooks (1 goal, 2 assists) and Hailey Richard 1 goal, 2 assists.)
Gerstell 15, Park 3: Piper Gallagher had six goals and two assists to lead the Falcons (4-3, 1-2 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference) over the Bruins (3-2, 0-2). Gertsell got two goals and an assist each from Hailee Petrecz and Kirsten Clarius and one goal each from Ridgely Anderson, Cambrie Franks, Morgan Steigerwald, Addy McIlvain and Lauren Polk. Addy McIlvain had 11 draw controls for the Falcons and Becca Sprinkle had three caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Century 12, Winters Mill 5: Allison Fling collected 12 draw controls and scored five goals to pace the Knights. Natalie Opatovsky scored three goals and Ryley Poe added two.
Liberty 17, Francis Scott Key 2: Jordyn Ott converted every shot she took, scoring four on the night. She also claimed five draw controls. Kourtney Goff had a team-high five goals and assisted on another. Mady Smith tallied eight points off three goals and eight assists. Carlie Hatfield scored both FSK’s goals.
Manchester Valley 17, South Carroll 5: Taylor Fique and Emma Penczek each totaled eight points to lead the Mavericks. Fique scored seven goals and assisted on another, while Penczek had five goals and three assists. Addison Meyer scored three goals and Haylee Bittinger had two. At the other end of the field, Molly Pulliam made five saves.
Loch Raven 11, Dundalk 1: The Raiders built a 10-0 lead at halftime. Abby Gerwig made five saves to shut down the Owls. Kate Chantelau had a team-high three goals. Joslen Klennert, Chloe Cincotta and Lauren Gongon all scored two. Sophia Bruno collected seven ground balls and won four draws.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes 21, Tome 6: Addy Majewski made five saves and the visiting Falcons (7-4, 4-0 Chesapeake Area Lacrosse League) beat the Titans. FCA was led by Maddie Krafchik (6 goals, 2 assists), Abby Slawinski (5 goals, 1 assist), Lauren Mumaw (4 goals, 1 assist) and Ella Burton (3 goals.) Audrey DiPietro had four goals for Tome.
Bryn Mawr 11, Severn 8: The Admirals suffered their second conference loss to the Mawrtians. Eleanor Beard and Peach Wellschlager both brought in a hat trick while Kelsey Pozdol and Antonia Huber each chipped in a goal. Suzy Urban (one draw, six ground balls, one caused turnover) added an assist, as did Sally Reed. Mary Pavon grabbed five draw controls. Cari Davis made five saves.
Softball
Patterson Mill 6, Bel Air 0: Audrey March went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run to lead the visiting Huskies over the Bobcats. Lily Baldwin went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for Patterson Mill. Amanda Redmiles went seven innings, gave up one hit, walked four and struck out five for the win.
Catonsville 12, Dundalk 5: The visiting Comets scored four runs in the fifth inning and beat the Owls. Lillie Ureno (2-for-4) had a triple. Amy Montgomery-Snoke went seven innings, gave up five runs on 10 hits, walked one and struck out 10 for the win.
Perry Hall 12, Franklin 0: Savannah Carl struck out 15 in a no-hitter for the Gators. Offensively, the Gators had just one run through four innings but erupted over the final three innings. Addison Dunlap and Amber Deems each went 3-for-5 with doubles. Dunlap also homered and finished with three RBIs. Madison Carl added two hits and three RBIs.
Broadneck 5, Severna Park 4: Addie Cornelius drove in two runs while Bella Herrera and Rylan Crisafulli each contributed another. In the loss for the Falcons, Quinlyn Bary tossed seven strikeouts, allowing seven hits, five runs (four earned) and four walks over six innings. Megan Young (2-for-4, run) and Lucy Benner (2-for-4, double and run) contributed to the Falcons’ rally that just fell short.
South River 4, Chesapeake-AA 3: CJ Harris drove in two runs on a double while Jaylynn Elliott added two RBIs. Addy Binko pitched a complete game for the Seahawks (4-3), with seven hits allowed. For the Cougars (5-3), Lindsay Cavey, Ryleigh Smoot and Kendall Kotofski each drove in a run.
Arundel 16, Southern 3: Aedyn Prince dealt 13 strikeouts and allowed three hits in the circle, while also driving home three runs on two hits, including a double.
Reservoir 16, Hammond 5 (5 inn): The Gators (5-2, 2-2 Summit) were firing on all cylinders at the plate. Abbie Frisvold spearheaded the offense with three hits, including a triple, an inside the park home run and two RBIs. Shelby Granzow, Annie Daigle and Cambell Sagin each had two hits. Catherine Yourishin added a team-high three RBIs.
Baseball
River Hill 15, Guilford Park 1: The host Hawks led 3-0 in the first inning and beat the Panthers. The Panthers scored a run in the fifth inning. River Hill collected 11 hits.
North Harford 4, Havre de Grace 3: The host Hawks took an early 4-0 lead and outlasted the Warriors.
Crofton 5, Old Mill 4: Junior Jason Gifford drove in two runs while Greg Frey had one RBI. Tristan Young pitched five innings for the Cardinals (3-4), striking out four and allowing five hits. The Patriots’ (6-3) slide extends to two games, despite runs from Russell Stratmann, Gavin Wagner and Brady Tingen.
Chesapeake-AA 7, South River 4: Lucas Slayton clubbed two RBIs while Dylan Adams, Jimmy Dreyer, CJ August and Christian Spoone each had one. Adams pitched five innings for the Cougars (6-3), throwing nine strikeouts.
Boys tennis
Marriotts Ridge 3, Mt. Hebron 2: Tyler Wang and Ayan Shankar won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively for the Mustangs. The No. 3 doubles pairing of Sai Chodavarapu and Peniel Kim won their match to clinch the victory. For Mt. Hebron, the doubles pairings of Vidhu Sampath and Shaan Kalyani, and Lay Shah and Rishi Kataria both won.
Girls tennis
Marriotts Ridge 4, Mt. Hebron 1: The Mustangs’ Stella Lee defeated the Vikings’ Riya Rai 9-7 in a thriller at No. 1 singles. Their doubles pairings of Christina Ottman and Maria Ottman, Erika Kang and Sophia Feldman, and Eunice Lee and Elaine Choi all won their matches. For Mt. Hebron, Krithi Bemgal won 8-6 at No. 2 singles.
Coed tennis
Severn Run 5, North County 4: Evan Schoonover (No. 2 boys singles), Emily Erlewine (No. 1 girls singles), Jasmine Escobar (No. 2 girls singles), Dylan Smith/Alex Escobar (No. 2 boys doubles) and Max Saad/Madison McAdams (mixed doubles) saved the close victory for the Wolves.
