Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Wednesday, April 9.

Softball

Archbishop Spalding 13, McDonogh 3 (5 inn.): The Cavaliers (5-2) exploded with 10 runs in the first two innings. Cessi Prince pitched two innings, striking out six of the eight batters she faced and allowing one hit and one walk. Lily Davey and Jalayah Jones spurred Spalding with three RBIs each.

South River 17, Glen Burnie 1 (5 inn.): Hanna Grambo, who eclipsed 100 career hits 24 hours earlier, knocked in three runs off two hits, including a double, for the Seahawks (6-4). Ava Zimmerman opened the game with a solo home run on the first pitch and finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Northeast 16, Old Mill 0 (5 inn.): The Eagles’ unbeaten record extends to 8-0. Madison Burris (1-for-3) struck a solo home run while Taylor Castle belted out a grand slam. Brynn Jones (2-for-3) brought in two runs as well.

Chesapeake-AA 16, Southern 0 (5 inn.): Allison Schaefer hit 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs as the Cougars (5-3) racked up all their scoring in the second, third and fourth innings. Emily Strevig (4-for-4) drove in three runs and Amya Murphy (1-for-2), Hannah Meeks (1-for-2) and Lexi Laumann (2-for-3) all batted home two runs apiece. Lindsay Cavey threw a complete game with nine strikeouts and three hits allowed.

Perry Hall 12, Kenwood 6: The visiting Gators scored four runs in the fourth inning to surge ahead of the Bluebirds. Skylar Thomas worked six innings, gave up six runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out five for the win. Amber Deems went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Addison Dunlap had three hits, including a triple and double, and three RBIs.

Centennial 7, Marriotts Ridge 3: The Eagles (6-4) won their second game in a row. All nine Centennial players had a hit, but Julia Braganca and Maddie Hall led the way with 3-hit performances each. Lauren Jensen picked up the win as she pitched a complete game and struck out four.  For Marriotts Ridge (7-3), Mackenzie Tasch had two hits while Gianna Peluso went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Mt. Hebron 11, Atholton 1: The Vikings (7-1) won their second game in a row as Abby Magdar dominated n the circle with 12 strikeouts in six innings. Mt. Hebron broke the game open with a seven-run third as Magdar drove in three runs and Gianna Giacoletto hit a solo home run. For Atholton (3-6-1), Reagan Law had two hits.

Long Reach 20, Wilde Lake 9: The Lightning (3-4, 3-0 Sierra) exploded for a season-high offensive output. Ryleigh Kendall had three singles on the afternoon, while Abby Richardson had a team-high four RBIs. Jazmin Yoshimura also had two hits for the Lightning as Riley Slonac also had a two-RBI double.

Reservoir 9, River Hill 1: The Gators (6-2) won their second game in a row. Cambell Sagin and Abbie Frisvold led the team offensively. Sagin had three hits, including a home run and a double and a team-high four RBIs. Frisvold added two hits and three RBIs, while Shelby Granzow, Catherine Yourishin, Annie Daigle and Serenity Newman each had two hits as well. Frisvold pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts.

 

Baseball

Long Reach 23, Wilde Lake 2: The Lightning (4-3, 2-1 Sierra) won their fourth straight and exploded for 19 runs in the second inning. Parker Freer went 3-for-4 with three RBIs from the lead-off spot. Meanwhile, Seth Rosenfeld went 3-for-5, including a double and a triple with three RBIs. Bobby Yates and Noah Murdock also had three hits and multiple RBIs, while Aidan West had two hits and three RBIs.

Centennial 6, Marriotts Ridge 2: The Eagles (6-2) scored the game’s final six runs to come back from a 2-0 deficit. Aidan Gauthier led the way from the lead-off spot with two hits, including a triple and two RBIs. Brayden Corrao also had two hits, highlighted by a two-RBI double. Carter Bade and Casey Stachera also drove in a run, while Evan Rayne earned the win on the mound, pitching 6 ⅔ innings and striking out six.

Fallston 9, Aberdeen 6: Reese Conley struck out 13 over six one-hit innings. He gave up just two unearned runs. Offensively, Aiden Stromberger had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Cougars. For Aberdeen, Trevor Zakowsky had a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Harford Tech 16, C. Milton Wright 0: CJ Scism struck out 14 in a two-hit shutout. He has 28 strikeouts and allowed only three hits combined in his last two starts, spanning 13 2/3 innings. At the plate for the Cobras, Tucker Underhill and Sam Roney each had four hits drove in two runs. Quinton Kron had two hits and three RBIs.

Havre de Grace 15, Edgewood 6: Bryce Bauer went 4-for-5 with a home run and a double and drove in two runs. Preston Blum and Julian Ringgold each added two hits and two RBIs.

Boys lacrosse

Patterson Mill 10, Harford Tech 9: Rex Reynolds scored five goals and assisted on another as the Huskies edged the Cobras. RJ Wilhelm had a team-high seven points with four goals and three assists. Cole Christian also scored a goal and Jack Reid handed out three assists. Brady Newell made 13 saves to get the win in his first start in goal.

C. Milton Wright 12, Bel Air 1: The Mustangs built a 5-0 lead after one quarter and 9-1 at halftime. Tyler Morris led a balanced offense with three goals, while Gavin Moore chipped in two to go with two assists. Liam Bender, Sam Levi, Brooks Benson, Cam Stepp, Braxton Marchand, Garret DiBlasi and Joseph Reich all added goals.

Hereford 11, Mt. Hebron 6: Zach Baker powered a punishing Bulls defense with six caused turnovers and five ground balls. Jack Warrenfeltz had three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Ian Smith led the offense with four goals. Brady Manankil had two goals and an assist.

Girls lacrosse

Aberdeen 11, Edgewood 8: Amanda Wang poured in eight goals to lead the Eagles. Iyeko Acheneje had two goals and Hannah Weer scored one. The Rams got four goals from Moezella Robinson and three from Mallory Hax. Emmerson Whittington also scored.

Boys tennis

Howard 5, Guilford Park 0: Nathan Gong and Ian Rhees both were dominant in 8-0 singles victories. The Lions doubles pairings of Krish Shroff and Shaunak Chittimalla and Ethan Yip and Ryan Zhou as well as Hemant Kantheti and Vihaan Jain each won.

Atholton 5, Mt. Hebron 0: Aryan Singh and Tristan Carter won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Raiders. The doubles pairings of Sam Li and Nikhil Ramani, Nathan Li and Joel Ihm and Nikash Kumar and Karthik Ramani all won. Sam Li and Nikhil Ramani won 9-8 in a thriller.

Girls tennis

Howard 5, Guilford Park 0: Ramaya Gajula and Medha Gaddam each won handedly 8-1 at No.1 and No. 2 singles. The doubles pairings of Madeline Williams and Leah Sellers, Charlotte Harvey and Pamela Shao, Kiera Mason and Deeya Patel all won their matches.

Atholton 4, Mt. Hebron 1: Clarie Sun won 8-1 at No. 2 singles for the raiders. The doubles pairings of Angelina Gizdova and Chelsea Sun, Elise Jackson and Crystal Hicks and Mischa Mukherjee and Amber Ghani all won.
