Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, Dec. 9.

Girls basketball

Perry Hall 46, Carver A&T 34: The Gators earned their first win of the season being 12 points from Tamiya Brown. Belen Ros finished just shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Maddy Rudolph chipped in eight points and Emily Rennie added seven.

Franklin 54, Patapsco 19: The Indians beat the Patriots in their season opener.

Westminster 52, Gerstell 44: The Owls moved to 2-0 with a strong win over the Falcons. Maddy Gassman led the scoring with 21 points, followed by Emma Jones with 13 and Brinley Boag with nine. For Gerstell, Kiara Hardy had her second straight 20-point night. She also had six rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Freshman Mackenzie Wilking finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Summer Beaumont netted eight points and six rebounds.

Liberty 40, Glenelg 35: The Lions defeated the Gladiators as Maggie Mesceda scored a team-high 12 points. For Glenelg (1-1), MJ Dabiri scored 12 points, while Skyler Mitchner added 10.

St. Mary’s 59, Broadneck 28: The Saints built an 18-5 lead after one quarter and cruised to the win. Bailey Harris hit four of the Saints’ eight 3-pointers and finished with 26 points. Alex Vandiver hit three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points. Macie McNece led the Bruins in the loss with 14 points. London Best followed her with 10.

River Hill 49, Centennial 36: Dylan Watson led the Hawks (2-0) with a season-high 27 points in the win. Kirsten Parypinski added seven points. For Centennial (0-2), Tatiana Machiz had 12 points.

Guilford Park 50, Marriotts Ridge 47: The Panthers earned their first varsity girls basketball win in their inaugural varsity season. Londyn Wiseman erupted for 36 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter. For Marriotts Ridge (0-2), Riley Jenkins, Lameez Bazzi and Katie Leader all had eight points.

Mt. Hebron 36, Hammond 23: The Vikings (1-1) picked up their first win under first-year coach Chris VanderVat. Michelle Nzelibe finished with 11 points to lead the way, while Kaitlyn Magdar added eight. For Hammond (0-1), Sara Yarnell had a team-high 14 points.

Atholton 39, Wilde Lake 38: The Raiders (2-0) held on as both Gisaiah Griffin and Juliana Blair scored nine points in the win. Atholton’s offense was well-balanced with seven different scorers. For Wilde Lake (1-1), Maggie Shidle had 13 points, while Quinn Corkeron had eight.

Aberdeen 32, Arundel 28: Zoe Smith led the Eagles in their close victory with 14 points and two rebounds, while being perfect from the free-throw line. Marissa Heil-Coleman followed with nine points and five rebounds. Nyjah Harris added eight points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Edgewood 50, Dundalk 39: Jael Erickson led the way for the Rams with 17 points and six rebounds, while Arianna Sisk and Jazmyne Jordan each added eight points. Lilly Semeltzer led the Rams inside with 10 rebounds.

Boys basketball

North County 69, Long Reach 65: North County edged out Long Reach in a high-scoring affair as Kevin Banks scored 18 points, while Josiah Bryant had 16. For Long Reach (0-2), Daniel Best scored a season-high 28 points, while Xavier Weston added 16.

Mt. Hebron 50, Hammond 47: The Vikings (1-1) ended the game on a 15-5 run to complete the come-from-behind win. Chase Willey led the charge with 17 points in the win, while Nick Ettiene added nine points.

Howard 68, Reservoir 50: The Lions (2-0) continued to roll to start the season with four double-digit scorers. Griffin Garner spearheaded the offense with 22 points, while Alex Reeb had 15. Josh Ademiju added 14 points while Joe Hill chipped in 11. For Reservoir (0-2), Bryan Reyes had 11 points.

Wilde Lake 67, Atholton 64: The Wildecats (2-0) edged out the Raiders in a close one. Wilde Lake had four double-digit scorers led by 19 points from Dre Hoskins. Josiah Hyson (17) and Noah Brazil (10) also finished in double figures. For Atholton (1-1), Cam Lyons had 17 points, while Isaiah Johnson added 15.

Marriotts Ridge 80, Guilford Park 48: Res Whitaker paced a well-balanced Mustangs offense in a dominant win. For Marriotts Ridge (1-1), Aaron Hammann had 13 points, while Blake Willingham added 10. For Guilford Park (0-2), Logan Hairston had 11 points.

Oakland Mills 57, Chesapeake-AA 46: The Scorpions (1-1) earned their first win of the season.

Gerstell 54, Westminster 48: The Falcons stretched out a three-point halftime lead to hold on for the win. Emri Tate led a balanced offense with 16 points. Grant Ray finished with 13 and Victor Gray chipped in 11. Westminster was led by Charlie Mollman’s double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. He also blocked three shots. Tanek Zitta had 11 points and Shae Greenwood chipped in 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Edgewood 71, Dundalk 42: The Rams (2-0) built a 15-point halftime lead and never looked back. Josh King scored 17 in the win. Sean Kellum backed him with 13 points and Chance Wells chipped in 10.

C. Milton Wright 62, Fallston 47: Dylan Sander put together one of the best individual performances so far in the area this season with 27 points and 25 rebounds in the Mustangs’ win. A 12-1 run in the third quarter broke open the game. Jordan Ross added 15 points in the win.

Broadneck 75, Park 37: The Bruins led by 10 at halftime and broke the game open with a 21-7 third quarter. Liam Sabo led with 13 points. Cole Schabow and Kemarri Collison each chipped in nine.

Wrestling

Patterson Mill 66, Elkton 12: Winners in contested bouts for the Huskies were Cole Christian (138 pounds) by pin in 36 seconds, Brandon Hinson (144) and Sanel Becirovic (215) by first period pin, and Gavin Voelker (285) by pin in the second period.
