Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Feb. 28.

Girls basketball

Chesapeake-AA 41, Marriotts Ridge 27: The Cougars (16-7) got a career-high 23 points from Kiery Matkins as they cruised in a Class 3A South Region I quarterfinal. Kendall Kotofski added six points and 15 rebounds in the win. Chesapeake next plays Mt. Hebron in a regional semifinal next week.

Aberdeen 57, Bel Air 30: The Eagles, the second seed in 3A North Region II, rolled to the quarterfinal win behind 26 points from Nyjah Harris. Morgan Hargrove backed her with 14 points and three steals. Kennae White chipped in nine points and Zoe Smith had a team-high nine rebounds.

North Harford 70, Elkton 27: The host Hawks beat the Golden Elks in Class 2A East Region I. North Harford was led by Amelia Hartlaub (12 points), Emily Signor (10 points), Cammie Appleby (7 points) and Payton Dinbokowitz (7 points).

Mt. Hebron 49, Old Mill 38: The Vikings (13-8) move on to the Class 3A South Region I semifinals with the win and will face No. 2 seed Chesapeake-AA. Pearl Prasartkarnka scored a team-high 13 points in the win, while Veronica Jensen added 10 points, all of which came in the second half.

Howard 81, Severn Run 20: The top-seeded Lions (17-4) dominated and move on to the Class 3A South Region I semifinals and will face No. 5 seed Glenelg. Kelsey Wimmer shined in her first career playoff game with 19 points, while Riley Watson added 10. Eleven different Lions scored in the win.

Glenelg 45, Northeast-AA 42: The fifth seeded Gladiators (10-11) traveled on the road and took down Northeast advancing to the 3A South Region I semifinals against top seed Howard. Both MJ Dabiri and Jordan Henggeler spearheaded the offense with 10 points. For Northeast, Brynn Jones scored 12 points, whale Starr Munford added 11.

Centennial 57, Long Reach 28: The fourth-seeded Eagles (9-10) took a commanding 18-point halftime lead and didn’t look back. They advance to next week’s 3A South Region II semifinal against top seed Oakland Mills. Tatiana Machiz scored a team-high 15 points, in which 11 different Centennial players scored. For Long Reach (5-14), Sydney Nance finished with a game-high 17 points.

Boys basketball

Reservoir 79, High Point 37: The host Gators beat the Eagles in a Class 4A Section I opening round. Reservoir was led by Bryan Reyes (30 points, 6 assists) and Canaan Chance (10 points).

Mt. Hebron 88, Chesapeake-AA 44: The top-seeded Vikings scored 80 or more points for the third game in a row in a dominant win. Mt. Hebron (21-3) saw nine different players score. Chase Willey led the well-balanced effort with 18 points, while Ezra Yauger chipped in 17. Kenny Akinlosotu added 15 points.

Towson 69, Dulaney 63: The visiting Generals upset the Lions in Class 3A North Region I. Towson was led by Devaughn West with 18 points and four steals. Seven Wheeler backed him with 16 points and also added nine rebounds and five steals. Jeremiah Harris chipped in 14 points while handing out four assists.

Harford Tech 82, North Harford 51: The visiting Cobras took a 20-11 early lead beat the Hawks in Class 2A East Region I. Mateo Hiett had a career-high 25 points in the win. He also finished with nine rebounds and five assists. Levi Ridley totaled 15 points and six rebounds, while Zach Lane chipped in 11 points.

Westminster 78, South Hagerstown 77: The Carroll County co-champion Owls saw a nine-point third-quarter lead turn into three-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The period went back-and-forth and a late South Hagerstown layup forced overtime. However, the Owls jumped ahead in the extra session and held on to the win. Will Mollman had a monster night with 25 points and 17 rebounds. Tanek Zitta finished with 20 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Charlie Mollman finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Broadneck 42, North Point 40: Ashton Sellman scored 12 points to lead the host Bruins over the Eagles in Class 4A East Region II. Liam Sabo scored 11 points and Kamari Williams had eight points for Broadneck.  North Point led 24-16 in the first half. The Bruins will travel to Leonardtown for Tuesday’s regional semifinal.
