Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Jan. 24
Girls basketball
South River 62, Severn Run 22: Cami Burke (13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) and Karlee Hawkins (11 points) led the host Seahawks (6-3) over the Wolves (1-6). Jordyn Acree had 17 points for Severn Run.
Meade 45, Northeast 39: The host Mustangs (4-4) beat the Eagles (4-6). Tuesday Northeast hosts North County. Next Friday Meade hosts Arundel.
Chesapeake-AA 43, Southern 39: Huntyr Marks scored a game-high 19 points, but the Bulldogs (4-6) fell to the Cougars (10-1). Chesapeake was led by Kiery Matkins (18 points), Carlie Shoemaker (10 points) and Kendall Kotofski (7 points, 11 rebounds). Tuesday Southern travels to Broadneck.
Broadneck 64, Arundel 14: The host Bruins opened with a 21-3 run and beat the Wildcats.
Manchester Valley 44, Liberty 37: Emma Penczek (20 points, 10 rebounds, 7 steals, 2 assists) led the Mavericks (8-5, 4-3 Carroll) over the Lions. Other top performers for Manchester Valley included: Brynn Bauer (9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals) and Taylor Fique (7 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals).
Wilde Lake 31, Long Reach 21: The Wildecats (4-5, 1-3 Sierra Division) picked up their first division win of the season. Trinity Chapell led the way with 12 points, while Quinn Corkeron added 10. For Long Reach (3-7, 0-3 Sierra) Sydney Nance had 10 points.
Glenelg 50, Marriotts Ridge 33: The Gladiators (5-4, 2-2 Summit Division) moved back over .500 with the win. It was a well-balanced effort as three players finished in double figures with Skyler Mitchner (16 points), Madison Perry (12) and MJ Dabiri (11). For Marriotts Ridge (2-8, 0-5 Summit) Lamees Bazzi had nine points while Peyton Albert had seven.
River Hill 58, Atholton 29: The Hawks (9-0, 4-0 Sierra Division) extended their undefeated start to the season. Dylan Watson led the way with 16 points, while Olivia Creighton added 13. Eight different Hawks scored in the win. For Atholton (5-6, 1-3 Sierra), Gianna Sanders had 11 points.
Boys basketball
Patterson Mill 57, Joppatowne 52: Kishann Smith scored a game-high 22 points, but the Mariners (10-4) fell to the Huskies (9-0). Patterson Mill was led by Colin Luddy (15 points) and James Hammond (13 points). Dartanun Blakney scored 13 points and Anthony Council had 11 points for Joppatowne.
Severn 62, Friends 37: DJ Lee scored a game-high 23 points and Sea Harvey had 12 points to lead the Admirals (11-5, 6-1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference) over the Quakers (4-14, 0-8). Friends was led by Charles Nugent (15 points) and Konstantin Dimitron (10 points).
Reservoir 67, Hammond 51: The Gators (4-5, 3-3 Summit Division) moved back to .500 in the division. Bryan Reyes scored a team-high 13 points and added three assists. Will Snoots had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kai Lewis had nine points and a team-high five assists. For Hammond (2-8, 1-3 Summit), Jackson Givens had 13 points.
Atholton 45, River Hill 35: The Raiders (6-5, 1-3 Sierra Division) put forth a strong defensive performance. Bryce Inabinet led the way with 14 points, while Cam Lyons added 13. Ian Pope Jr. also chipped in 11. For River Hill (3-7, 1-5 Sierra), Anderson Dang had 14 points.
