Boys soccer
Harford Tech 8, Joppatowne 0: The defending Class 1A state champion Cobras got their 2024 playoff run off to a great start. Brody Smith and Colby Golding each scored twice, with Brayden Chryst, Zach Lane, Reese Topfer and Robert Brzezinski all adding goals. Brzezinski and Lane each had two assists.
Patterson Mill 12, Frederick Douglass 0: The Huskies had an offensive eruption in the Class 1A North Region II quarterfinals. Carson Harting and Chandler Williams each had two goals. Phil Tolliver, Nate Kiefer, Caleb Zerbe, Grayson McLaughlin, Finn Pantazelos, Kolton Gibson, Joey Sauer and Owen Young each added one.
Bel Air 7, Digital Harbor 0: Mason Smedley had a hat trick and the host Bobcats beat the Rams in Class 3A. Blake Stallard added a goal and two assists. Louis Hernandez-Giron, Tanner Shugart and Parker Schuelke all hit the back of the net in the win.
Poly 3, Aberdeen 0: The Engineers beat the Eagles. Poly got goals from Christian Raysor, James Stewart, and Lisander Ramirez.
Fallston 2, North Harford 1: The Cougars won their 2A East Region I opener with second-half goals from Levi Tanguay and Ariya Khairghadam. Mason Judd assisted on both goals. Lucas Clark made six saves in goal. The Cougars advance to play region top seed C. Milton Wright next.
Broadneck 10, Suitland 0: The host Bruins led 8-0 in the first half and shut out the Rams in a Class 4A North Region II quarterfinal. Raef Barradel and Jaydyn Lowe each scored twice for Broadneck. Mason Kaline, Jed Meehan, Will Epley, Wilson Banwell, Braeden Kelly and Ryan Ball all scored as well.
Annapolis 3, North Point 1: Alejandro Peña had a goal and an assist to lead the host Panthers over the Eagles in Class 4A East Region II. Manny Salvador and Max Maldonado also had goals in the win. Annapolis travels to Bowie on Saturday at 7 p.m. for a regional semifinal.
St. Mary’s 2, St. Vincent Pallotti 0: The visiting Saints (10-1-1, 6-1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference) beat the Panthers (10-4-4, 2-4-2). St. Mary’s – 2. Than Souza and Jake Wills each scored for St. Mary’s. Friday, the Saints host Annapolis Area Christian and Pallotti hosts Saints Peter & Paul.
Liberty 6, Loch Raven 2: Matt Sozio scored twice to lead the top-seeded Lions past the Raiders in a 1A North Region I quarterfinal. Justin Kish had a goal and two assists and Lucas Britos had a goal and an assist. Austen Veach and Noah Sederquist also scored. Brady Bergan added an assist.
Girls soccer
South River 2, Arundel 0: The host Seahawks scored a goal in each half to beat the Wildcats in a Class 3A regional quarterfinal. Riley Glenn and Raegan Ogle each had a goal and Cami Burke and Shannon Creswell each made a save. Friday, South River faces James M. Bennett.
Glenelg 9, Poolesville 0: Grace Sung had two goals and two assists and Jordan Henggeler scored twice to lead the Gladiators over the Falcons.
Westminster 9, North Hagerstown 0: Jennifer Vasquez had two goals to lead a balanced Owls attack in their win. Stella Schoberg, Mikayla Britz and Lila Halsey each had a goal and an assist. Riley Taylor, Andi Zaslow, Anna Erb and Abby Bunting also scored. Katie LoPiccolo had two assists.
Boys volleyball
Patterson Mill 3, Joppatowne 0: The Huskies beat the Mariners. Patterson Mill won, 25-20, 25-12, 25-16. The Huskies were led by Aidan Mackowiak (16 kills, 6 aces), Dylan Lewis (4 kills, 8 aces), Blaise Jones (8 kills, 1 block.)
