Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, Oct. 7.

Field hockey

South Carroll 4, Winters Mill 0: The Cavaliers bounced back from suffering their first county loss with a shutout win. Dakota Clemens scored twice and Emily Maynard had a goal and two assists. Megan Maynard also scored and Alayna Enoff had an assist. Caelin Lopes needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout.

Manchester Valley 3, Century 0: A balanced offense keyed the Mavericks’ win. Shelby Wurzburger had a goal and an assist. Amanda Herrold and Georgia Wurzburger also had goals. Allie Largent and Sophie Baer had assists. Makayla Shoaf made one save in the shutout.

Bryn Mawr 7, McDonogh 0: Zoe Herkalo made five saves to earn the shutout for the Mawrtians. Addie Polakoff and Penelope Kousouris each had two goals with Kousouris handing out two assists and Polakoff one. Simone Schwartz, Sabine Schwartz and Cate Tortolani also had goals.

Crofton 8, Arundel 0: Olivia Feeley scored four goals in the Cardinals’ win. Charlotte DeForest backed her with two goals. Also in the win, Grace Morris had a goal and an assist, Maddy Gummeringer scored a goal and Laili Afzal handed out two assists.

Broadneck 9, Old Mill 0: Raleigh Kerst led the Bruins’ onslaught with four goals. Faith Everett finished with two goals and an assist and Katelyn Kearns totaled one goal and one assist. Vera Shaklee and Cate Imber also scored, while Alyssa Lewis and Charlotte Robertson had assists.

Northeast 4, Glen Burnie 0: In the loss, senior keeper Sydney Green had 11 saves for the Gophers.

Patterson Mill 7, Aberdeen 1: Maddie Tunney had her had in four Huskies goals, scoring one and assisting on three. Lucy Bates totaled a goal and two assists in the win. Avery Burrows scored two goals, while Payton Chase, Kim Lyn and Lilly Dove each had one goal. Maddie Wheeler and Tyler Lewis had assists.

Reservoir 3, Atholton 0: The Gators (5-4) moved back over .500 on the year with the win with two goals off penalty corners. Claire Kimnach, Sandra Salkini and Sam Feher each scored, while Feher added an assist.

Glenelg 11, Marriotts Ridge 0: The Gladiators (7-0, 3-0 Summit Division) clinched the Summit Division title and a Howard County championship game berth with a dominant win. Brinkley Eyre led the way with a season-high five goals, also adding three assists. Lakshmi Almli had a pair of goals, while Cate Staley had a goal and two assists. Meghan Walker, Lexi Winters and Chloe Kennedy also netted goals.

River Hill 3, Howard 0: The Hawks (5-3, 2-2 Sierra Division) won their second straight game as Carolyn Dzubak, Maya Chan and Lauren Jee each scored goals. Gabby Bergstrom and Dzubak had assists, while Annie Levine made three saves in the shutout win.

Towson 6, Perry Hall 1: In the loss, the Gators got a goal from Sophie Blevins.

Boys soccer

Annapolis 2, Meade 1: The Panthers ended a two-game losing streak when Edwin Alfaro took an Alejandro Pena pass and put it in the net in overtime. Pena scored Annapolis’ first goal in the fifth minute. Oskar Pietrowski stopped a Meade penalty kick in the second half to help force overtime.

Chesapeake 5, Chesapeake Science Point 0: Byron Klohr recorded his third hat trick of the season, while Paul Michael and Cade Shannon also scored for the Cougars. Klohr added an assist, while Caleb Ritter and Drew Williams also had assists.

Glen Burnie 1 Severn Run 0: After a scoreless first half, Mike Akintunde scored the game’s only goal in the second to lift the Gophers. Dylan Cunningham had one save and earned the shut out.

Broadneck 6, Old Mill 0: Jed Meehan and TJ Remson each scored twice with Meehan adding an assist in the Bruins’ shutout win. Braeden Kelly had a goal and an assist and Erik Akhtar also scored. Wilson Banwell had two assists.

Perry Hall 4, Catonsville 1: The Gators closed the game with three unanswered goals after the Comets tied it midway through the first half. Tommy Sowis scored twice in the win, Parker Newman scored the go-ahead goal late in the first half and Jacob Bondyra also hit the back of the net. Ryan Varricchio handed out two assists. Kader Diop also had an assist.

Carver A&T 1, Patapsco 0: With the game scoreless into double overtime, Toby Skidmore ended the game converting on an assist from Noah Mills. Wildcats goalie Bennett Laut made 20 saves in the win.

Eastern Tech 6, Franklin 0: Dylan Dunn netted a hat trick to lead the Mavericks (5-2-1) over the Indians. Dylan Dunn netted his second hat trick of the season, both coming against the Indians. Oskar Lyp and Anthony Baca-Fuentes combined for the shutout.

Volleyball

South Carroll 3, Westminster 0: The Cavaliers topped the Owls, 25-19, 25-20, 25-10. Kaelyn Bower led the win with eight kills with Elaine Murphy right behind her with seven. Pia White paced the offense with 21 assists. She also served six aces.

South River 3, Glen Burnie 0: The Seahawks cruised, 25-9, 25-14, 25-9. Julian Eubanks and Hannah Takacs each put down a team-best eight kills, with Takacs adding three aces. Karlee Hawkins was right behind them with seven kills. Rebecca Austin finished with nine assists and two aces, while MacKenzie Mulvihill led the defense with 20 digs.

Atholton 3, Marriotts Ridge 1: The Raiders responded after dropping the first set in a 17-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-16 win. For Marriotts Ridge (2-7), Kelly Swenson had 10 kills and seven digs, while Katy Harbaugh added seven kills. Grace Lei had 16 digs, while Anoushka Rath had 12 assists and six digs. Eva Hull had 10 assists, eight digs and three aces for the Mustangs.

Golf

Manchester Valley’s Jackson Streett and South Carroll’s Patrick Carl won championships at the District 1 tournament at Black Rock. Streett shot a 1-under 71 to win the 4A/3A championship. Carl posted a 3-under 69 to win the 2A/1A division.

In the team standings, Manchester Valley won the 4A/3A title, the first in school history. Backing street was Matt Slivosky with a 79, Gavin Reid with an 82 and Adam Slivosky with an 82. South Carroll’s total of 298 won the 2A/1A title. Jack Laur and Mason Peak shot 76s and Michael Valerio carded a 77.

Westminster qualified for the 4A/3A state tournament after shooting a 327, led by Luke DiDio’s 72. He was backed by Mason Myatt (82), Andrew Czajka (86) and Dalin Thomas (87). Century qualified in 2A/1A with PJ Lownsbury leading with a 76. Aaron Kim shot an 83, Brayden Wamboldt shot an 84 and Alena Kim posted an 87.

Individual qualifiers in 2A/1A were Liberty’s Ben Davidson (77) and Gavin Speace (80), as well as Francis Scott Key’s McKenna Lanza (94).
