Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, famous for his television shows including “Kitchen Nightmares” and “Hell’s Kitchen,” visited Havre de Grace this week to film at MacGregor’s Restaurant.

After news and photos surfaced online of Ramsay’s appearance in Frederick last week, rumors reached Havre de Grace, drawing dozens of residents to the sidewalks along St. John Street where they waited for hours across from MacGregor’s to catch a glimpse of the chef.

A crowd of roughly two dozen people had gathered near the restaurant starting around 1 p.m., Tuesday, holding their ground until they finally caught a view of Ramsay exiting the building around 4 p.m. As they lingered, production crew members repeatedly reminded fans to stay off the road, and asked some to relocate to avoid being in the background of shots.

One crew member in close proximity to the crowd was peppered with questions, and said that the filming was for a television show that is “brand new, not even titled yet.”

Ramsay’s last visit to Maryland was early 2020 when he filmed a special called “24 Hours to Hell and Back” in Ellicott City. While there, the chef unveiled renovations to three downtown businesses as the city worked to rebuild after devastating flash floods in July 2016 and May 2018. In 2011, he paid a trip Baltimore where he filmed an episode of Kitchen Nightmares at Café Hon, which closed in April 2022 after operating on The Avenue in Hampden for more than 30 years.

Owners of MacGregor’s did not respond to requests for comment.
