Fire investigators are seeking a suspect who they believe hurled a Molotov cocktail through a broken window at an Edgewood auto shop late Saturday night, causing “moderate damage” to an office area.

The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal said in a Sunday news release that it took about five minutes for firefighters to extinguish the small fire after responding at about 11:46 p.m. to a burglary and fire alarm at Precision Tune Auto Care on Pulaski Highway.

Assisted by an accelerant-detecting dog, investigators determined the fire was intentionally set after someone threw the homemade explosive into a side window. A suspect, or multiple suspects, “broke a window and threw” the “incendiary device” into the office area, the fire marshal’s office said.

The owner will be making repairs after the fire caused an estimated $5,000 in damage, according to the release. No injuries were reported.

Those with information is asked to contact the fire marshal’s Northeast Regional Office at 410-386-3050.
