The law firm that represents the family of Rachel Morin is calling out a lack of communication from President Joe Biden’s administration to the Morin family.

In a news release earlier this week from Rice, Murtha & Psoras Trial Lawyers, the firm states that the Morin family has been waiting for more than 75 days since the arrest of a suspect in the case for President Biden’s “acknowledgment of the alleged rape and murder of Rachel Morin by an illegal immigrant.”

Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five from Bel Air, was killed August 2023 along the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail. In June, police arrested Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, 23, of El Salvador, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is charged with first- and second-degree murder; first- and second-degree rape; third-degree sex offense and kidnapping. He is being held without bail in the Harford County Detention Center and will face three court hearings in October.

Less than a month after Morin’s death, authorities found that DNA from the Harford County crime scene was identical to DNA from a March 2023 crime scene in Los Angeles, where a 9-year-old girl and her mother were attacked during a home invasion, according to Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler.

The DNA was used to trace potential relatives of Martinez-Hernandez in El Salvador, said FBI Special Agent in Charge William DelBagno of the Baltimore field office. That ultimately helped authorities identify and find the suspect. Gahler said investigators believe Martinez-Hernandez came to the United States illegally in February 2023.

Randolph Rice, the Morin family’s attorney and spokesperson, said in the news release that former President Donald Trump has met with the family on several occasions to offer support and condolences, and Gov. Wes Moore has also reached out to the family. Former Gov. Larry Hogan and current Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller attended the one-year memorial walk held earlier this month at the trail, “demonstrating their commitment to honor Rachel Morin’s memory,” Rice stated.

But the family has not heard anything from the Biden administration, Rice stated.

“The Morin family is deeply disappointed by the lack of acknowledgment and compassion from President Biden and his administration. … The silence is deafening, and it sends a troubling message that the safety and well-being of American citizens are not a priority,” Rice stated in the news release. “This lack of concern serves as a reminder of the apparent disregard by the Biden administration for the victims of preventable crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Like many others, the Morin family deserves recognition and action from their leaders to prevent such tragedies from happening again.”
