A remembrance walk is planned next month to mark one year since the death of Rachel Morin — a 37-year old Bel Air mother of five who was killed on the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail last August.

The walk is set for Aug. 4 at 3 p.m., starting at the trail’s Williams Street entrance.

Morin’s mother, Patty Morin, will begin the event by addressing the crowd. A song and prayer to honor Rachel will follow. The family has invited the public to join them on the remembrance walk.

“We invite everyone to join us in remembering Rachel, to honor her memory and the light she brought to our lives,” Patty Morin stated in a news release. “It has been a year since her tragic loss, and we hope this walk will bring our community together in love and remembrance.”

According to the news release from Rice, Murtha Psoras Trial Lawyers, the attorneys representing the Morin family, security and crowd control for the event will be provided by the Bel Air Police Department and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

“This date holds immense importance for Rachel’s family, the Maryland community, and the nation,” attorney Randolph Rice said in the release. “This walk serves as a reminder of the need for changes and the impact of this tragedy on our nation.”

Police have arrested and charged 23-year old Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez of El Salvador in Morin’s death.

Martinez-Hernandez was arrested in Tulsa, Oklahoma and transported to Harford County last month. . He was indicted this month by a Harford grand jury and faces six charges, including first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense and kidnapping.

Since Martinez-Hernandez’s arrest, former President Donald Trump, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, and former Gov. Larry Hogan have each reached out to the Morin family to express their condolences; all three have been invited to the remembrance walk. None has confirmed whether they will attend, according to the news release.

Members of the Morin family were invited by Trump to attend the 2024 Republican National Convention earlier this month. Rachel Morin’s brother, Michael Morin, spoke about Rachel’s death on stage.

The remembrance walk is a rain or shine event.
