Harford County police arrested Timmy Ward Jr., 27, on Tuesday, five hours after responding to a report of a trespasser in a parking lot outside several businesses in Abingdon.
Ward, a resident of High Point, North Carolina, was charged with disturbing the peace, failing to obey a lawful order, resisting arrest and obstructing a law enforcement officer, according to court records.
Deputies from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at 5:21 p.m., Tuesday to 3004 Emmorton Road in Abingdon after receiving a report of trespassing, according to Cristie Hopkins, director of media and public relations for the sheriff’s office. Hopkins said Ward and his vehicle had been in the parking lot since Dec. 7, which prompted several calls for service over three days.
The parking lot surrounds several businesses including Chadwell Animal Hospital, Dunkin’, Goodyear Auto Service and Long & Foster Real Estate.
Hopkins said when deputies attempted to make contact with Ward to issue him a warrant for trespassing, Ward failed to acknowledge their presence and thwarted several attempts to get him to get out of the vehicle.
Deputies tried different nonlethal ways to enter the vehicle and finally took Ward into custody at 10:53 p.m., more than five hours after police responded.
Ward was transported to the Harford County Detention Center Tuesday evening, according to Hopkins. His bail was set at $5,000 during a hearing on Wednesday. Ward’s trial is set for Jan. 6 in Harford County District Court.
