North Harford Middle School in Pylesville was evacuated Friday morning following a chemical spill in the school’s pool area.
No students were present at the site of the spill, officials said, and the evacuation of students was done as a proactive measure. Seventh-graders were evacuated to the nearby elementary school, while sixth and eighth graders were evacuated to the high school.
The fire department was called to the school to assess the situation, and school officials anticipated returning to the building to finish the instructional day.
“There was never any imminent threat to our students and staff; the evacuation was a precaution as the chemical spill was contained to the pool area and is being addressed,” school officials stated in a message to parents and guardians who have students at the school.
