Animal Control officers with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office struck gold Wednesday, when they discovered three abandoned yellow Labrador Retriever puppies in a wooded area in Havre de Grace.

Officers found the three dogs, estimated to be five months old, in the 900 block of Country Club Road, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. The puppies appeared to be healthy and were taken to The Humane Society of Harford County while the Animal Control Unit investigates, the sheriff’s office said.

Dog lovers will have to wait before they can adopt the dogs. They remain on a stray hold at the shelter, according to a post from The Humane Society of Harford County. The puppies must be vaccinated and cleared by a veterinarian before they would be offered for adoption, the post said.

Individuals waiting for a furry friend are advised to watch the Humane Society’s website for the dogs to be listed, likely in the next week, according to the post. It may be tough to pounce on the opportunity, as the puppies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Adoption applications can be submitted online for a head start.
