A crash left one pedestrian dead in a work zone Tuesday morning in Harford County, according to the Maryland State Police.

Maryland State Police troopers responded to the report of a crash involving a dump truck and a pedestrian in the area of southbound Interstate 95 near Mountain Road shortly after 8:30 a.m., police said.

The dump truck was backing up while operating in a work zone and, for unknown reasons, hit a worker, police said based on a preliminary investigation. Police did not share the pedestrian’s identity.

Maryland Transportation Authority personnel assisted with the closure of one southbound lane, state police said. Maryland State Police Crash Team and Criminal Enforcement Division troopers also responded to the scene to help with the investigation. MDTA said the lane was reopened after 3 p.m.
