Continuation of the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail plus three new playing fields and 180 parking spaces have been proposed for a 30-acre property off of Vale Road in Bel Air. The plans are scheduled for a community input hearing Oct. 23.
Plans dated Oct. 2 show concepts for a baseball field, a softball field and a practice field south of Vale Road near Locust Avenue. The plans also show a playground, a bathroom facility, pickleball courts, walking paths and a pavilion.
The layout of the park is similar to Bel Air’s Cedar Lane Regional Park, with extensive asphalt walking paths weaving between the park’s amenities and neighboring fields.
The asphalt trail on the property will lead to the Heavenly Waters Dog Park near the Ma and Pa Heritage Trail and the Harford County Equestrian Center. According to the plans, the Ma and Pa Heritage Trail will be “extended through the existing landfill area” near the Tollgate Yard Trim Facility.
County Home Road — a limited access, county maintenance road off Vale Road — currently cuts through the property. Plans show that a new road off Vale Road will be created almost directly across from the Vale Road entrance to Crofton Drive to allow access to the park.
The property backs up to the Bel Air Bypass and is just outside of a heavily populated residential area with dozens of neighborhoods bordering the property.
A community input meeting for the property will be held at 6 p.m. in the main activity room of the William N. McFaul Activities Center, 525 W MacPhail Road, on Oct. 23. Community input meetings are the first step in the development process. They give residents the opportunity to ask developers questions and provide their thoughts on proposed developments.
