The District B Harford County Council seat vacated by the removal of Aaron Penman in late February will soon be filled by one of three candidates.
The candidates are Russell English, Allison Imhoff and Joe Xavier, according to Jeff McBride, Harford County Republican Central Committee chair. The committee recommended them to the council, as Penman is a Republican.
The nominees will attend the next council meeting on Tuesday to help community members learn more about them, according to Council President Patrick Vincenti.
Vincenti and council member Jessica Boyle-Tsottles, of District E, both said they have interviewed each of the candidates.
“I’m looking forward to having them come sit with us next Tuesday night and give us a little bit of insight into who they are so that the district can see and hear them for themselves,” Vincenti said.
In February, Penman was removed from his position following a judge’s ruling that his dual employment as a council member and a sergeant with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office was a conflict of interest that violated the county charter.
The council will select the new council member April 22. That person will fill out the remaining years of Penman’s term.
In November, the council removed Dion Guthrie from his District A seat representing Edgewood and Joppatowne. Guthrie’s seat was filled by Nolanda Robert, who was nominated by the Harford Democratic Central Committee and appointed by the council Jan. 7.
Guthrie, of Joppatowne, was serving as a council member when he was charged with felony theft last year in Baltimore County. He was accused of stealing between $5,000 and $25,000 from the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 1501 in Cockeysville between Oct. 1, 2017, and Sept. 30, 2021.
