A 37-year-old man has been charged in connection with a shooting that occurred on Christmas Day in Edgewood, according to a news release from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

Kenneth King Jr. faces multiple charges related to the shooting, including attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and firearm charges.

On Dec. 25 at around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a reported shooting at the 1600 block of Candlewood Court. Once there, officers located Marquis Gaskins, 32, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen, the release said.

Gaskins was flown by helicopter to a hospital for emergency surgery. He is reported to be in stable condition.

According to the release, investigation revealed that the shooting occurred at the 1700 block of Dearwood Court, and deputies were able to identify the car that was believed to be involved in the shooting. At about midnight on Dec. 26, police located the vehicle in the area of Conowingo Road and Bel Air Bypass, prompting a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as King, was seen wearing clothing that was consistent with what was shown in the surveillance footage of the shooting, police said. During the traffic stop, police observed a handgun inside the car that matched the description of the gun seen in the surveillance footage, the release said.

King was taken into custody without incident.

Additionally, the release said police obtained several search warrants and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and multiple cell phones.

Police said they believe all parties involved knew each other and the shooting was not random.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for King in Harford County District Court on Jan. 23.
