Harford Schools Superintendent Sean Bulson’s paid administrative leave will end Saturday, but the school board will not say whether Bulson will be permitted to go back to work this weekend.

Acting school board President Lauren Paige told The Baltimore Sun on Thursday that she is unable to disclose what board members talked about Wednesday during a closed meeting, due to advice from lawyers.

Bulson was placed on a 30-day paid administrative leave Jan. 7, just days after a 911 call he placed to New Orleans Police surfaced on social media.

In the April 2024 call, Bulson reported that a woman he had invited into his hotel room allegedly stole his wallet, personal cellphone, Apple watch and iPad and his school-issued laptop and cellphone after he fell asleep around 2 a.m.

Two separate, independent investigations concluded that nothing was stolen from Bulson’s hotel room and that a hotel employee had found the items in a safe in Bulson’s room.

Bulson is Harford Schools’ top-paid employee, earning an annual salary of $293,219.57, and his four-year contract with Harford Schools is set to end June 30.

According to former school board President Aaron Poynton — who resigned last month — Bulson sent a letter to the Board of Education in November in which he elected to have his contract renewed.

Paige has said that she is near certain the school board will not renew Bulson’s four-year deal.

Since Poynton’s resignation Jan. 8, Paige has been tasked with working to figure out options the board can take regarding Bulson’s leave and employment with Harford Schools.

She said the board could vote to renew Bulson’s contract; vote against his contract renewal and begin the search for a new superintendent; negotiate a buyout with Bulson and allow acting Superintendent Dyann Mack to continue in the capacity; or allow Bulson to return to his position.

In late January, Paige said the best-case scenario would be for the board to negotiate a buyout package with Bulson and begin the search for a new superintendent.
