Drivers heading north on Interstate 795 in Baltimore County this weekend should expect delays as crews repair sections of damaged pavement, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.
Beginning Friday at 9 p.m., two left lanes of northbound I-795 will be closed between I-695 and Owings Mills Boulevard. The closures will remain in place around the clock — even when crews are not actively working — so the new concrete has time to cure and be tested.
All lanes are scheduled to reopen on Monday at 5 a.m.
No lane closures are planned for the southbound side of I-795.
The highway administration is urging drivers to allow extra travel time or consider alternate routes, such as Reisterstown Road, also known as Maryland 140. Weather permitting, this will be the final weekend of concrete work on the highway, state officials said.
If rain delays the project, work will be rescheduled for the weekend of Sept. 26 through 29 or at a later date.
The $8.5 million project is part of a larger contract aimed at improving safety and traffic flow along interstates in Baltimore and Harford counties. Contractor Gray & Son Inc., of Timonium, is handling the work and will use traffic signs and cones to direct drivers through the work zone, according to the administration.
