Two cats are missing and a house sustained an estimated $100,000 in damages after a house fire in Aberdeen Thursday night. Fire officials believe the fire was started by an unattended candle.

A passerby alerted a person inside the home, in the 200 block of Darlington Avenue, about the fire, and it was reported to fire officials at 10:11 p.m., according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Fire crews were able to contain most of the fire to the bedroom.

Two of four cats that lived in the home got out safely, the fire marshal said; the other two cats have not been located.

The fire displaced two adults; one suffered a minor injury but declined to be taken for medical care.
