Each week throughout the winter season, The Aegis will select boys and girls basketball players of the week, factoring in individual statistics and accomplishments as well as team success. The public will then have the opportunity to vote on which of the finalists will earn the honor of the overall Harford County Basketball Player of the Week.
Voting will run through the end of the day on Wednesday. Readers can vote once per hour, and the final results will be published Friday.
Last week’s winner was Patterson Mill’s Rylie Madsen, who gathered 34.7% of the public vote. Fallston’s Aiden Robinson finished second with 30.8% of the votes in a tight race. Madsen was originally nominated after eclipsing 1,000 career points and leading the Huskies, who are 20-2 and will play in Tuesday’s Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference title game, to four victories in five days.
Here are the Harford County high school basketball players of the week from Feb. 16-22:
Boys basketball
Josiah Lawrence, Havre de Grace
In four games last week, all on the road, Lawrence averaged 26 points and 11 rebounds, punctuated by surpassing 1,000 career points in a 24-point victory over North East.
James Hammond, Patterson Mill
Hammon led the Huskies with 18 points in their UCBAC semifinal win over Fallston on Friday, sending them to Tuesday’s conference championship game.
Girls basketball
Payton Dawson, North Harford
Dawson racked up 55 points and 45 rebounds across four games last week, 13.8 and 11.2 per contest, respectively, while also guiding the Hawks to a 3-1 week.
Anthi Nezis, Patterson Mill
The Patterson Mill girls also won their conference semifinal matchup on Friday. Nezis, a freshman, led the team with 17 points in the victory and has seamlessly stepped into a larger role after her twin sister, Andrianna, suffered a season-ending injury earlier this month.
