Plans for a gas station and hotel at the intersection of Bulle Rock Parkway and Level Road in Havre de Grace have been withdrawn amid strong pushback from residents.

The plans from applicant Eric McLauchlin of PK Law, a Maryland-based real estate and corporate law firm, outlined construction of a gas station and a “25+ room” hotel on 33.32 acres of vacant, semi-forested land known as The Green Property. Further details were not available.

Current zoning of the land is “Residential Business,” which allows for a mix of commercial and residential development. Developers would have had to get approval for “conditional use” of the land from the city’s Board of Appeals as a first step.

Plans for the gas station went before the city’s Board of Appeals for the first time on Nov. 12. Some board members and numerous residents criticized the proposal and the board tabled a vote, asking planners to submit more details and information about the project.

The board had been set to vote on the project’s approval for conditional use Thursday, but the plans for both the gas station and hotel were withdrawn by project planners on Dec. 18.

Chris Ricci, the city’s director of administration, said the withdraw notification was sent to the city’s planning staff via email and did not outline a reason for the withdrawal.

McLauchlin did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
