An employee at a UPS distribution center in Harford County pleaded guilty to stealing about $175,000 worth of jewelry, out of 23 packages.

Kazane Deravin, 40, pleaded guilty to theft over $100,000 on Dec. 11, and a Harford County judge has ordered him to pay restitution for the theft, according to a release from Aberdeen police.

The thefts happened between December 2024 and May 2025, court records show. Saxon’s Diamond Center, Zales, Jared and Kay Jewelers were targeted, along with jewelry stores in the Harford Mall and White Marsh Mall.

Deravin worked at the UPS Sorting and Distribution Center in Aberdeen as a “preloader,” which means he scans and loads packages onto UPS trucks, according to charging documents.

Charging documents show Deravin went back onto the trucks to grab the packages and hide them between tote bags. He then took the totes to a closet, removed the jewels and put them into his backpack, investigators said. The investigation ultimately yielded 23 total stolen packages, according to police.

Kenny Perez, 47, of Aberdeen, is identified as a co-conspirator; she worked beside Deravin at UPS. Her case was indefinitely postponed, with the conditions she has no contact with UPS Aberdeen and that she pay restitution, court records show.

Aberdeen police and UPS security identified Deravin and Perez through security videos. The investigation also showed the two pawned the jewelry to several shops, according to the release.

Jewelry shops in the Harford Mall and White Marsh Mall are still missing packages, according to charging documents.

Deravin was charged July 15 and later admitted involvement in the theft. He pleaded guilty in early December.

The Maryland Office of the Public Defender declined to comment on the case.
