A guitar valued at around $15,000 was stolen from a Bel Air Music Land earlier this month.
According to police, the theft occurred Tuesday, Feb. 3, around 8:30 p.m. when four individuals — a man and three women — entered the family-owned music store, Music Land, located at 200 Gateway Drive in Bel Air.
Police said in a news release Monday that the four individuals were seen on surveillance footage entering the store around 8:20 p.m. The Owner of Music Land, Larry Noto, said the group spoke with store staff and looked around the store’s humidity-controlled acoustic room prior to the theft.
He said while the group was in the room, the male suspect was seen grabbing a stool and retrieving a 1947 Martin D-28 guitar from the display wall, and handing it to one of the female suspects, who placed the instrument in a bag that she then hid in her long, black winter jacket.
The suspects then left the store without paying for the guitar.
The guitar, which police said has distinctive cracking on the back from prior refinishing, is valued at around $15,000. The serial number, provided by Noto, is 101862.
According to Noto, the Martin Factory, Martin guitar dealers, pawn shops and regional music stores have all been notified of the stolen guitar.
Anyone with information about the theft or knowledge of the whereabouts, sale, or attempted sale of the guitar is asked to contact Officer K. Martin with the Bel Air Police Department at 410-638-4500 or Kmartin@belairmd.com.
